A Very Large Pannier: Arkel GT-54 Grand Touring Rear

Today I want to talk about our hugest pannier. The GT-54 sports a removable tube for carrying your sleeping pad and tent poles, as well as a convertible fanny pack. The outside organizational pockets make it easy for you to locate whatever it is you're looking for, be it toothpaste or tea, and the full length zipper gives you total access to all your gear. There's also an integrated waterproof liner.

To be fair, 3300 cubic inches may be a bit more space than some of us need for a rear pannier. When might such a large pannier be a good idea? Some folks find they like these panniers when they're riding a tandem and have less luggage space on their rear rack than they need for two people. Others take the GT-54's on a really long journey. Some people just like to bring a lot of stuff with them, and want extra space in case they find something neat! And there's always the off chance you'll want to stick a baby inside for easy transport. $399/pair, baby not included.
