Meet your Climate Ride California Team Captain!

We are very grateful to be beneficiaries of Climate Ride again this year! Everyone here at Adventure Cycling is so geared up for it that in order to choose team captains for Climate Ride California and Climate Ride NYC to DC we had to hold a lottery!

I am really excited to introduce you to the Adventure Cycling team captain for Climate Ride California. You'll recognize her from the Cyclosource catalogs, membership packets, and from the cover of the Adventure Cyclist Sample Magazine. You know her as our Media and Publications Assistant who worked initially on managing and growing BikeOvernights.org, handles a lot of our digital communications, and assists the editor of Adventure Cyclist magazine. If you've commented on our Facebook page or tweeted with @acagear or @advcyclingassoc in the last year, she's most likely the person you've been chatting with!

She's Adventure Cycling's very own Alison Riley

Alison, tell us a little bit about yourself.

"I'm originally from Vermont, I moved to Missoula in 2006 to attend the University of Montana. In 2010, I graduated with a B.A. in English and shortly afterwards fell madly in love with bicycle touring. In 2011, I began work at Adventure Cycling Association as the media/publications assistant. When I'm out of the office, I drink tons of coffee, go on adventures as often as possible, and chip away at my master's in creative writing, which I will complete the day before I leave for Climate Ride! I'm skipping my graduation to ride my bike with you!"

Why are you passionate about Climate Ride?

"Because I'm passionate about bicycle travel. Climate Ride does a great job of tying two incredibly important goals together: supporting efforts to make our country more sustainable, and creating awareness of the need and desire for bicycle advocacy and infrastructure. Discovering that I had the ability to travel and explore by bicycle, whether it was a few miles down the road or a few thousand, was one the most empowering experiences I've had. I want to help inspire more people to travel by bike."

What can riders expect when they join Adventure Cycling's Climate Ride California team?

"Well, as you're breezing by me on the uphills, you'll know that with every pedal stroke and every dollar raised for Adventure Cycling Association, your hard work and fundraising efforts are directly supporting the implementation of the U.S. Bicycle Route System. You'll be riding with some of the country's most dedicated advocates of bicycling and sustainability, and you'll be at the forefront of a national dialogue on climate change and the development of dedicated bicycling infrastructure. To top it off, we'll be spending a week riding through some of the most spectacular scenery our country has to offer, meeting amazing people, and forming relationships and connections that will increase awareness and support for the U.S. Bicycle Route System."

If you want to join Alison on Climate Ride California and raise funds to help build an official U.S. Bicycle Route System, visit the Adventure Cycling team page and register to ride! We can't wait to see you there!

If you can't ride with us this time, but would like to support Alison's fundraising efforts, visit her Climate Ride page to make a donation.
