Friday Round-Up

Hey there cyclists and cyclistas!

The Build It. Bike It. Be a Part of It. campaign to build and grow the U.S. Bicycle Route System (USBRS) is in full swing now as we round the bend on the 3rd week of the campaign. We're going full-steam-ahead (can I use another idiom?), and have some fun and easy ways for you to support the USBRS and get some great cycling gear.

The best part?

You don't even have to donate to support the campaign. (But if you want to, we've got a few incentives to inspire you there too!)

Easy Rider Tours is making it easy for you support the creation of the U.S. Bicycle Route System. All you have to do is follow them on Twitter at @easyrider_tours, and they'll donate $1. They're donating $1 for every new Twitter follower in the month of May (up to $250). This one is so EASY, it just takes the click of your mouse to become an easy ... donor?

Not on Twitter? Eat a CLIF Bar!

Through June 11th, CLIF Bar is conducting the Share Your Epiphany contest. Share your epiphany with CLIF Bar and enter their contest, and you could win a $5,000 grant for the nonprofit of your choice (and we're hoping you'll select Adventure Cycling). Click here to read my epiphany posted during our 2011 Holiday Campaign. Let's share the epiphany of bicycle travel with CLIF.

Oh my BOB ... trailer ...

There are lots of ways to support the USBRS, and one way is to simply spread the word. How? Create a short "red-light" video like this one that Media Director Winona Bateman and I created.

Some organizations call this an elevator statement, a brief explanation of what you do and why it's important, which you pitch to someone in an elevator. Considering we are all about cycling, we thought it made more sense to tell someone on a bike next to you while stopped at a stop light.

Use your phone or a flip camera to make a video telling people what the USBRS is and why it's important. You can ad-lib off of our red-light script. Upload your video to YouTube and share it with as many friends as possible. The video with the most views wins a Yak Plus from BOB Trailer. Don't forget to submit it to our playlist for consideration!

Panniers, panniers, panniers, oh my!

We all know that high-quality, durable, completely waterproof and just darn cool panniers can cost a pretty penny. Panniers by business sponsor Orlieb are of the highest quality and are reasonably priced for the life you'll get out of them. Want to know how to get a pair of limited-edition 30 Years waterproof panniers from Ortlieb for just $25? I can think of a few cyclists who have a pair of Orlieb panniers on their wish list.

Well, wish no more! Ortlieb is helping us build the USBRS by donating a pair to our campaign. You can enter to win a pair by donating just $25 to the campaign by May 20th. We'll announce the winner on Monday, May 21st. Want to sweeten your chances? Give $25 twice and be entered twice.

Looking for some style?

Donate $100 or more and receive this special-edition USBRS cycling cap, designed by Walz Caps specifically for the USBRS and the Build It. Bike It. Be a Part of It. campaign. It will match your USBRS jersey beautifully. (Now we just need a pair of USBRS socks!) Supplies are limited so don't wait to donate!

So far we've raised $22,850 to build the U.S. Bicycle Route System. Choose one or two of the ways mentioned above to get involved and help grow this national bicycle route network to be a truly comprehensive system. We're nearly half-way to our $50,000 goal, and we're hoping to make it to $23,000 by the end of the day today. We're so close, spread the word by sharing us on Facebook and Twitter or emailing your friends.

Thanks to everyone who has helped us make it this far!
