Only two weeks left!

We're getting there!

So far we've raised $22,000 towards our $86,000 match challenge. So we're a little more than a quarter of the way there. Some of that will be matched 2:1, so we're probably more like a third of the way to meeting the match. There are about two weeks left before the deadline of December 31, and your support can make all the difference in growing bicycle travel this year. Donate today!

We've already mentioned how your support will help us create maps for new routes on the Adventure Cycling Route Network, like Bicycle Route 66. Your support will also be crucial in growing the U.S. Bicycle Route System, so that Adventure Cycling's Bicycle Route 66 can also be U.S. Bicycle Route 66!

As our cartographers, Carla, Jenn, Casey, Nathan, and Melissa sort through the data that Melissa gathered earlier this year on Bicycle Route 66 and begin mapping the route. Ginny Sullivan, our Director of Travel Initiatives and lead staffer on the U.S. Bicycle Route System, along with newest employee Adam Reel, coordinate with State Departments of Transportation (DOTs), volunteers, grassroots organizations, and local communities on the official designation of U.S. Bicycle Route 66.

Route 66 is well on its way to becoming a bicycle route. With the help of the cycling community, numerous states, including Missouri, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, and California, are working toward designation. State DOTs, local agencies, and community organizations are determining the best route within the corridor and gaining agreements from the towns and counties so the route can become an official U.S. Bicycle Route (USBR). As these volunteers and agencies work toward official recognition, our cartographers are working closely to make sure the Adventure Cycling route reflects their efforts.

On other routes, Ohio is near completion of USBR 50 across the central part of the state, and their work has spurred interest in USBR 50 in Indiana and Pennsylvania. Indiana has been working on USBR 35 and has almost all of the local agreements ready for the state application. USBRs are also being developed in several other state including Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, and Washington.

Another recent development is Adventure Cycling's work with Toole Design Group to conduct case studies on USBR designation and recommend best practices for implementing the U.S. Bicycle Route System.

You can help grow the U.S. Bicycle Route System and Bicycle Route 66 by donating to Adventure Cycling's 2012 Holiday Campaign. This year we have an $86,000 match challenge from the Holiday Trailblazer donors. All gifts will be matched 1:1, and, if you give a donation that is 25% greater than your annual gift last year, they will match it 2:1!* All gifts must be received by December 31 to qualify for the match, so please donate today.

And speaking of gifts, you can give a mile on one of our routes to a friend or family member. These donations also count towards our match challenge and are a fun way to support the Adventure Cycling Route Network.
