Everything Old is New Again

A rider stopping through Adventure Cycling the other day was eyeing up our selection of panniers and starting checking out our frame bags. "These are really the hot new thing right now!" she exclaimed. I agreed with her. A few years ago we didn't even carry one frame bag, and now we carry several different kinds. They are extremely popular, and I'd say this is due to the growing popularity of ultra-light mountain bike touring and racing (check out the Tour Divide event and Great Divide Race).

After the rider left, though, I turned around and noticed the tandem bicycle used to scout out the TransAmerica Bike Trail -- our first mapped cycling route, created in 1976. (The tandem is usually hanging on the wall, but we've been having some construction done so the bike has been living on the ground for a few days.) And, fitted perfectly in the front triangle of the white Gitane, was a lovely blue frame bag. Maybe they've been the hot thing all along!
