Auction Highlights: A Colorado Backcountry Hut Tour

One lucky bidder will win a single-track bike adventure for two: Colorado Backcountry Biker (CBB) has offered up space for two people on their Dominguez Trip. Bid on this trip during Adventure Cycling's first annual Summer Cycling Auction.

With an opening bid of $350, this epic bike trip for two includes food and drinks, two nights in cozy backcountry huts and an additional night at the exclusive Gateway Canyons Resort.

"You'll meet CBB owner Kevin Godar, "The Hut Guy," at 7 a.m. for pre-trip orientation before hitting the Smith Point Trail, a single track gem which winds through the Dominguez Canyon. You'll navigate the pristine single track through a pinion and juniper desert before a big climb into a huge forest of ponderosa pines and aspens before reaching your first destination -- a backcountry cowboy camp where you'll spend your first night.

After a good night's rest and a big breakfast you'll have a mild 3-mile climb then cruise 6-miles to the next hut and a 12-mile single track loop which will entertain, challenge and delight you for the rest of the day.

The last day of your adventure includes more technical single/double track or an alternate non-technical jeep trail route. Either way it's a great day of riding with huge views of the La Sal mountains and a 3000 foot plunge into Gateway Canyon. You'll cruise the final miles to the secluded Gateway Canyons Resort. If you're spending the night you can check in, enjoy a hot shower and explore what the resort has to offer.

After a gourmet meal and a recuperative night, spend a lazy day around the resort's pool, tube down the Dolores River or try your hand at fly fishing. We encourage you to visit the resort's website for a complete list of amenities."

Colorado Backcountry Biker, based in Fruita, Colorado, began operating in 2006 to offer hut to hut mountain biking trips to people looking for a little adventure with their trail ride. The concept of hut-to-hut trips is an old one and usually perceived as primitive. However, Colorado Backcountry Biker takes it up a notch and transforms the idea of a self-guided trip into a luxury adventure by transporting gear, fresh food, and cold beer to the hut to make the riders' arrival more like a reward. Kevin Godar, sometimes referred to as The Hut Guy, is the founder, owner and operator.

June 18th through 22nd, Adventure Cycling Association will offer its members and the general public something new and exciting -- the opportunity to bid on fantastic tour spots, bike-specific art, and even a wine tasting in our first annual Summer Cycling Auction! Visit our Bidding for Good auction and keep an eye on the blog in the coming weeks to see other items that we will be auctioning.

Funds raised will support the reroute of the eastern Montana and North Dakota sections of the Northern Tier and Lewis & Clark routes due to safety concerns, and will support the research and development of Bicycle Route 66!
